If you're in real estate, construction, or the built environment, this one's for you.
Belgian construction has 16,576 open vacancies, a 7.07% vacancy rate, the highest of any sector. 87% of hiring companies struggle to find people. In Flanders, site managers and construction estimators are on the official list of 227 bottleneck professions. In Wallonia, Le Forem expects open construction jobs to climb from about 6,000 to as many as 30,000 as energy renovation takes off.
And yet the sector lost 2,500 jobs in 12 months, while Belgium needs about 35,000 more homes a year by 2030.
Fewer people. More work. An ageing workforce. That's not a shortage. It's a cliff.
On 22 April, we're hosting "Construction Labor Cliff". One evening. A curated room. Contractors, developers, training providers, HR leaders and tech players, working out who will actually build Belgium's next decade.
