Nearly 90% of Luxembourg homes still heat with fossil fuels. Buildings produce over 20% of the country's energy-related emissions.
The money is there, but it's going elsewhere. Of the €404M paid out through Klimabonus since 2020, €289.7M went to solar panels and only €60.6M to energy renovation. That's about 780 renovation applications a year, against more than 10,600 for solar.
Even the State is behind. EU rules require it to renovate 3% of its building floor area every year: about 154,600 m². The national plan set 1,832 m², roughly 84 times less. And 7 in 10 State buildings don't even have an energy performance certificate.
The retrofit wave hasn't really started in Luxembourg yet. That's exactly why now is the moment.
