If you're in real estate, construction, or the built environment in Portugal, this one's for you.
In January 2026, Storm Kristin and the storms that followed caused about โฌ1bn in insured losses in Portugal: 180,000 claims, roughly 41% of a normal year's home and business claims, in a matter of weeks.
Six months earlier, 271,587 hectares burned across mainland Portugal, the fourth-worst year on record. The Piรณdรฃo fire alone covered more than 65,000 ha, the largest single fire ever recorded in the country. Across the EU, 2025 set a record of over 1 million hectares burned, and Portugal and Spain account for almost half of it.
Climate risk is no longer a line in an ESG report. It's showing up in insurance premiums, valuations, financing conditions and where people choose to live.
On 13 May, we're hosting "Climate Risk". One evening. A curated room. Investors, insurers, developers, engineers and public players, talking about how to price, design and build for the climate we actually have.
